The Unbearable Lightness of My Wallet

Hollywood is all in a dither over plummeting DVD sales and falling profits.

Really fellas, for a town and an industry, where the first three items on the scorecard of success are: money, money, and….oh yeah, money, you seem to have no understanding at all of your market.

This is Economics 101.

The success of your industry depends on how much money Americans(and others worldwide) can allocate toward discretionary spending. That is money not used for food, housing, medicine, transportation, education, business.

And the most discretionariest of discretionary spending is buying DVDs and Blu-Rays. The second most? Going to first run movies in theaters.

Nothing you sell is a need. It is a want.

So, why on Earth would you support the Democrats’ higher tax schemes, and cap and trade, and anti-business stance in general?

Let me make this very simple.

If Barack Obama and the Democrats increase my taxes by $1000.00/yr, I now have $1000.00 less to spend on DVDs like the new digitally remastered Police Academy 6.

If Barack Obama and the Democrats pass Cap and Trade, that will increase my energy costs and general cost of living by $1800.00/yr on top of the my rather modest hypothetical $1000.00/yr tax increase, that’s a net loss to me of $2800.00/yr spending power.

And so on, throughout the rest of Obama’s costly job killing schemes. Money I could be spending on goods and services, specifically your DVDs now goes to Washington DC.

Yeah, that’s right, Hollywood. Barack Obama took your lunch money. Also, your hooker, blow, and spray-on tan money.

Oh sure, I was going to buy the Essential Ernest Collection…….

But wait….now follow me here: If my taxes go down by $1000.00, I now have $1000.00 more in discretionary spending.

Where I once had only $1000.00 in discretionary spending, I now have $2000.00.

That’s 2000 smackeroos for you to earn by selling me DVDs and Blu-Rays. Best of all, there are 100′s of millions of people just like me in this country who have their own discretionary money they are ready to give you.

You know what that means don’t you, Hollywood?

WOO HOO! Let the good times roll! Speedballs and tranny hookers for everyone!

So, there it is Hollywood.

Keep supporting socialists and progressives with your money and influence and watch your market continue to fall. Because we, your customers, can’t spend what we don’t have.

Or, support conservative, free-market candidates and let the boom times begin.

Heck, they can even be Democrats but they have to be conservative, free-marketeers who believe in our Constitution.

The choice is yours, Hollywood. Don’t make me explain this to you again.

P.S. Making some decent movies would help, too.
